The first checks after birth
Your baby is examined after birth and observed for breathing, temperature, feeding and colour. Anything that needs closer attention is escalated to the neonatal team in the same hospital.
Sali International Women's Hospital β Formerly Lusaka IVF & Fertility Clinic
Every baby born here is examined and observed after birth, and parents are supported with feeding and early care. Newborn care covers the first checks, feeding support and the follow-up after you go home.

Feeding is where most new parents need the most help. Ward staff support positioning and latching, help with expressing where needed, and watch that your baby is feeding well before discharge.
Newborn jaundice and early weight loss are common and usually settle, but both are monitored because a small number of babies need treatment. You are told exactly what to look for at home.
You leave with a follow-up appointment for your baby's weight and feeding, and clear instructions on when to come back sooner.
